About me

Hi, I’m Ben Parry, I write about many things though

I write about once a month, though without a fixed schedule, about topics that are front of mind. Usually I return in some way to religion, philosophy, cities, complexity science, human agency, skilful actions, and strategy (business). I like to alliterate this as competence, complexity, cults, and cities.

I am best studied in Chinese language and history, complexity science, religious studies and how to run organisations effectively so I employ concepts from those areas more often than not.

I try to make each email a good piece of writing to peruse over a cup of coffee and leave you with at least one useful idea.

The logo for this site is a print by Emil Orlik of a Japanese print maker. The print is done in the shin-hanga print style. There is something captivating about shin-hanga. It manages to combine an uncompromising precision of the kind usually reserved for machine-made things with an unmistakeable quality of being hand-crafted and lovingly considered. This is the flavour I hope I can achieve in my writing here.

Here are a few of what I consider my greatest hits:

If you’re interested in the current state of my projects both here and elsewhere I write about it in most depth in my annual letters. Here is the most recent one:

You can find out more about what I’m up to on my personal site and if you ever want to get in touch please don’t hesitate to email me at ben@benparry.ca or DM me on X (née Twitter).

I feel very grateful to call this incredible city home.
